RECENT PRESS:

'Cinema Verité: Maysles creates cinematic discourse uptown '

"...It's a feeling I've had [that feeling] many times since joining the Cinema staff—that desire to shout the screening times from rooftops, hire a skywriter—anything to get people to 127th & Lenox to witness the feats these artists and organizers continue to accomplish."

'Choosing Cinematheque Over Cineplex'

"....The most enterprising microcinemas promise not just a film that isn't showing anywhere else but also an experience tailored around it. Context is everything...At the Maysles Cinema in Harlem the publication in the spring of Manning Marable's Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, occasioned the screening of videos by Mr. Marable's stepson, Michael Tyner, and a panel on Malcolm X's legacy that featured the poet Amiri Baraka. 'Niche movie theaters: Maysles Cinema'

"This nonprofit Harlem theater is devoted to nonfiction programming, just as you’d expect from founder Albert Maysles, who with his late brother directed documentary classics such as Grey Gardens. Perfect for: Doc lovers who relish the chance to talk to filmmakers postscreening. "
